24 Soldiers were killed in the war of Gaza.

According to the Israeli military, 24 soldiers killed.

Monday was the worst day in the Israeli military’s ground invasion of Gaza, with 24 troops killed in a explosion, when they lost in the the area of Gaza.

Early on Tuesday, the soldiers’ deaths were declared by the military. The chief spokesman for the Israeli military, the majority of the soldiers were inside the two two-story buildings that collapsed on Monday afternoon. The blast appears to have been caused by explosives used by Israel’s own military to level the structures.

The deaths occur at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing criticism from abroad due to the high number of Palestinian casualties in Gaza, worries about a wider regional conflict, and internal disagreements over how to continue the battle with Hamas. Mr. Netanyahu stated on Tuesday that the army was looking into the incident and that Israel had “experienced one of the most difficult days since the start of the war.”
He declared in a statement that “we will not stop fighting until complete victory” and that “we need to learn the necessary lessons and do everything to preserve our soldiers’ lives.”
Although some Israeli military leaders have claimed that the two objectives are irreconcilable in the short term, Mr. Netanyahu has stated that the war’s objectives are to destroy Hamas and secure the release of the hostages abducted during a Hamas-led raid on Israel on October 7. There is increasing pressure on him to negotiate the release of the captives, even if it means eliminating the militant organization.
In a statement on social media, Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his condolences for the troops, stating that learning of their deaths had made for “an unbearably difficult morning.” Early on Tuesday, the military announced the identities of the ten soldiers—ages 22 to 37—who perished in the blast. They all came from the same brigade—nine of them. Prior to now, it named three paratroopers who died in Gaza on Monday as well.
In Israel, a tiny nation where military conscription is almost necessary and a rite of passage, the deaths of soldiers can have even greater significance.
Mr. Netanyahu is under fire from around the world for the extensive carnage in Gaza, where health officials report that over 25,000 people have died, making it the greatest Arab loss in an Israeli war in the previous forty years. International humanitarian organizations report that sickness is pervasive and that widespread hunger is becoming close to starvation levels in Gaza, where nearly the whole population of 2.2 million has been relocated yet is still blocked off.
There have been two days with high death tolls for the Israeli military since Oct. 7, when officials claim 1,200 people died in Israel: Dec. 9, when nine troops died, and Dec. 13, when ten. The military reported that 15 soldiers were killed in northern Gaza between October 31 and November 1.
